{"id":216,"date":"2023-01-18T02:45:06","date_gmt":"2023-01-18T06:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sunnychow.com\/wordpress\/?p=216"},"modified":"2023-01-18T02:45:06","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T06:45:06","slug":"repairing-flat-bearings-on-a-microsoft-trackball-explorer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sunnychow.com\/wordpress\/2023\/01\/repairing-flat-bearings-on-a-microsoft-trackball-explorer\/","title":{"rendered":"Repairing flat bearings on a Microsoft Trackball Explorer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tools needed (these happen to what I had handy):<\/p>\n<p>From iFixit:<br \/>\n&#8211; Mako Driver Kit &#8211; 64 Precision Bits (philips 0 and sim tool)<br \/>\n&#8211; Precision Tweezers Set<br \/>\nPrying and Opening Tool Assortment<\/p>\n<p>Hobby tools:<br \/>\nTamiya Fine Pin Vise 74112<br \/>\nGodhands Pin Vise Drill Bit Set B<\/p>\n<p>Picks:<br \/>\nTekton mini picks<\/p>\n<p>Consumables:<br \/>\nBlutak or Tak n stik<br \/>\n3x 5\/64&#8243; ceramic ball bearings (avail on amazon)<\/p>\n<p>1. Remove 5 screws from exterior shell.  Use prying tools to remove bottom rubber covers to remove without damaging.  Take note of screws and holes (they&#8217;re not the same).<br \/>\n2. Remove two ribbon cable connecting bottom half to top half of trackball.  Use picks to undo latches.<br \/>\n3. Undo the 2 screws holding the board next to the circle.<br \/>\n4. Remove board, taking note of orientation.<br \/>\n5. Remove 2 screws holding trackball holder.<br \/>\n6. Remove trackball holder.<br \/>\n7. 3x for each ball bearing.<br \/>\n&#8211; Use sharp pick to create pilot, use 1mm hand screw to drill.<br \/>\n&#8211; When it&#8217;s completely through, use sim card tool to push through ball bearing.  Use tak n stik to receive bearing and to protect fingers.<br \/>\n&#8211; Push in new bearings.<\/p>\n<p>Note:<br \/>\nball bearing is 1.99mm.
